Rally for racial justice Friday at The Statehouse
A rally organized by Showing Up for Racial Justice Columbus in association with Black Lives Matter took place at The Statehouse Friday at 6 p.m. in response to the multiple police-involved shootings throughout the country and in Ohio.
The rally aims to highlight the shooting of 23-year-old Henry Green, who was shot by police in Columbus on June 7.
Initial reports from police said Green was carrying a weapon in the open, refused to drop it when ordered, and fired at police before police returned fire. However, Green’s friend who was with him at the time disputed the initial story, saying the plainclothes officers did not identify themselves before shooting Green.
One of the main demands of the rally is an independent investigation of the shooting conducted by an independent prosecutor.
After meeting at the statehouse, the protesters will march to the police station at 120 Marconi Blvd.
