Last month, developer JSDI Celmark scaled back plans to demolish historic Old North houses on High Street following a public outcry.

Yesterday the developer released renderings of just what the new View on Pavey Square would look like: modern buildings situated behind the historic houses.

One of the renderings even shows a proposed change to nearby Mexican restaurant Cazuela’s–now a shining white palace of an eatery with apartments above.

The proposal submitted to the University Area Review board includes plans for 115 apartments, office space, and a 230-car parking garage.

See the link below for the full renderings.

“It is apparent that preservation of the streetscape is critical to many stakeholders in the neighborhood,” said lawyer James Maniace in a letter representing JSDI Celmark.

Though neighbors are not completely satisfied with the new plans, advocates are calling the plans a balance between new development and preservation.
