Perhaps you heard propellers or saw low-flying planes around Columbus early this morning–confused?
Here’s the scoop: the Ohio Department of Agriculture was spraying to combat gypsy moths.
The pests have a reputation for chowing down on leaves, leaving some trees barren in the summer months.
According to the Ohio Department of Agriculture, the insecticide the planes were spraying this morning affects the moths’ caterpillars, and it’s not toxic to people, pets, birds and fish.
Though Columbus Police have received dozens of calls about the low-flying planes, they say the flights are authorized and nothing criminal is happening.
