West Nile in Worthington, mosquito spraying tonight

After mosquito traps in Worthington were found to contain West Nile virus, Columbus Public Health officials announced spraying would take place tonight.

Expect to see spraying in northeast Worthington, bounded by the following roads: South of East Wilson Bridge Road; East of High Street; West of Huntley Road; and North of Ridgedale Drive.

7/27/16: Mosquito spraying resumes tonight and tomorrow

Franklin County Public Health is slated to resume mosquito spraying tonight and tomorrow in the following areas:

Wednesday, July 27

  • Prairie North

Thursday, July 28

  • Dublin Central
  • Sharon Township South
  • Riverlea

Spraying will commence around 9 p.m.

Area residents shouldn’t be alarmed; however, to minimize exposure to pesticides stay inside and close windows during spraying, and to take any outdoor pet food and water bowls inside.

 


7/26/16: Mosquito spraying today in Clintonville, Northland

After the City of Columbus confirmed a case of West Nile Virus (see below), two areas will be sprayed to combat mosquitoes, according to Columbus Public Health.

The two areas to be sprayed are:

  • Clintonville: The areas between West North Broadway to the south, Henderson Road to the north, High Street to the east and the OIentangy River to the south.
  • Northland: The area between Karl Road to the west, Cleveland Avenue to the east, East Dublin Granville Road to the north, and Sandalwood Place, Tamarack Circle, Northtowne Blvd., and Maplewood Drive to the south.

7/22/16: West Nile Virus found in Clintonville mosquito trap

The first case of West Nile Virus has been discovered in Franklin County.

According to Columbus Public Health officials, a mosquito pond tested positive for the virus in Clintonville.

Columbus Public Health Commissioner Teresa Long made the announcement this morning.

Mosquito spraying will resume in Clintonville as a result of the findings.

Though about 80 percent of people infected with the virus show no symptoms, those who do experience flu-like symptoms and rashes. About 1 percent of cases are very serious, and can affect the central nervous system. Those most vulnerable are the very young and people over 50, and those taking immunosupressive drugs.

To help prevent West Nile Virus, eliminate standing water on your property, even in seemingly small quantities like bird baths or baby pools, and be sure to use bug spray when out at night.
