OSU Lineman, John Hicks, One of the “All-Time Greats” Has Died

John Hicks, a bonafide Columbusite if there ever was one, passed away at the age of 65 due to complications from diabetes, according to 10tv.

As a former Buckeye lineman, he played for Ohio State from 1970-73, and was a two-time All-Big Ten and All-American during his career.

He was also inducted into three different Halls of Fame: Ohio Athletics, College Football, and the Rose Bowl.

“I was stunned and saddened to hear the news of John Hicks’ passing,” Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said in a press release, “He was truly one of the all-time greats for this university who was always good to this football program and the community. He will truly be missed and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”

After college Hicks became a first-round draft pick for the New York Giants and played with them for five years before an injury ended his career.

His blaze trail didn’t end there though: after his injury he returned to Columbus as the CEO of the John Hicks Company — a commercial real estate firm. He also became an active hand in the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, Ohio State Athletics, the Greater Columbus Sports Commission and the Boys and Girls Club of Central Ohio.
