Big Lots will likely get $12.8M from city to move HQ across town

When you’re a company as big as Big Lots, moving your headquarters can be a costly endeavor, but it looks like the city of Columbus will help out with the cost.

Right now the Columbus-based, $5.2 billion company has its headquarters on the west side, but it plans to relocate 750 jobs to the Hamilton Quarter development near New Albany.

The price tag for the city of Columbus: $12.8 million in tax breaks.

Though the deal isn’t set in stone yet, Big Lots will probably receive the tax breaks in order to help out with the estimated $40 – $65 million in construction and moving costs, and to keep those 750 jobs in Columbus.

Construction could begin in six months, with a final move happening near the end of 2018.
