Floods, power outages in wake of storms

If you woke up this morning to a power outage or a street that looked more like a river, don’t worry, you’re not the only one.

Energy provider AEP Ohio says more than 5,000 customers are experiencing power outages in Franklin County alone.

Driving conditions weren’t ideal this morning either, with roads like Canon Drive near Ohio State or Schrock Road and State Street in Westerville experiencing flooding.

AEP predicts most customers will have their power back on by 7 p.m. tonight.

6/22/16: Heads up: hurricane-force winds hitting Columbus tonight

A series of storms originating west of Columbus are poised to roll into central Ohio later tonight, bringing a wave of 70 mph winds with them.

The storms are expected to develop over Chicago this afternoon and to head east, arriving in Columbus some time from midnight to 3 a.m.

Though tornadoes are expected in Iowa and Illinois, the greatest problem facing Columbus is wind damage.

That means power lines could get knocked out, so be sure your cell phone is fully charged tonight just in case you wake up to a power outage tomorrow morning.
