The price of hip: Micro-apartments hit Columbus

The price of hip: Micro-apartments hit Columbus

Think you could fit your life into 300 square feet?

More and more Columbus residents are answering that question with a resounding “yes,” moving into micro-apartments like downtown’s Microliving @ 260 S. 4th Street.

With rent prices in Columbus on the rise, it’s not uncommon to see one-bedroom, or even studio apartments in areas like the Short North going for around $1,300 a month, whereas Microliving’s 300-foot studios will cost you between $750 and $899 a month.

Though the apartment market in the capital city isn’t quite to the level of New York or Los Angeles, where people pay $500 a month for literal closet space, smaller apartments are definitely catching on, with the average studio apartment size coming in at only 390 square feet–the fourth smallest in the nation according to apartment data firm Yardi Matrix.

Are you ready to burn your bed frame and stick your mattress in a loft to be in the heart of all the action Columbus has to offer?

Tell us what you think in the comments or on Twitter @614NOW!
