What’s in a name? Some North Linden residents seek ‘East Clintonville’ rebrand
Some residents of North Linden are seeking a change of name that they hope will change the perception of their neighborhood.
North Linden resident Vicki Johnson wrote a letter to the Columbus Dispatch saying that the part of Linden south of Weber road has crime, “dilapidated houses, absentee slumlords and poverty,” while North Linden has a different atmosphere.
Though the North Linden area was never part of Clintonville, residents say the name change could shift attitudes towards the neighborhood in the same way that Franklinton has benefitted from no longer being called “the Bottoms.”
Ideas have been proposed to connect Linden and Clintonville, including a bicycle bridge to cross I-71.
Kristopher Keller, of the Clintonville Area Commission, said the commission would be open to absorbing “East Clintonville,” acknowledging similarities between the neighborhoods.
