Ice, ice baby: Hockey + learning facility coming to town
We can’t believe we’re saying this but there’s actually an ice shortage in Columbus—ice rink shortage, that is.
A new, state of the art ice hockey facility is going up just off Sawmill Road at I-270. The complex, called Viking Hockey Academy, will include two regulation size ice rinks, a ‘studio size’ rink, an off-ice training center, a weight room, a restaurant/bar, a daycare center, and educational classrooms reports 1st Ohio Battery.
It’s no wonder the new hockey facility will incorporate a learning component as the mastermind behind it is none other than the founder of the Haugland Learning Center, Dr. Morten Haugland.
Haugland Learning Center is a school for children on the autism spectrum and will be adjacent to the new sporting complex.
Viking Hockey Academy will accommodate youth programs as well as adult leagues, inner-city programs, private lessons, and hockey for people of all ages with disabilities. Expected open date is September 2019.
