Adult playground in Hocking Hills lets you smash stuff with construction equipment
You’d be lying if you said you never looked out your office window at the construction lot next door and thought to yourself, “Man, those workers are so lucky. They get to break, crush, and hoist stuff all day long with sweet equipment and I have to sit in this stupid office.”
And you’re right, they are lucky. But Hocking Hills Sandbox is giving you the opportunity to live out your heavy machinery operating fantasy.
The 15-acre facility in Laurelville is staged with an excavator, bulldozer, cherry picker, and truck loader.
There’s a van waiting to be smashed to smithereens, logs poised to be picked up, and hills begging to be plowed through. Each piece of equipment has its own lane, games, and challenges.
Individuals, groups, family members, friends, and co-workers are all welcome to pretend they’re Tim the Toolman Taylor and the female equivalent starting at only $100. Hell, they even let 14-year-olds pal around with the equipment. It’s not a free for all though, as visitors are guided by trained instructors while operating the machines.
If you need to get together for a conference meeting after an afternoon of roughhousing, Hocking Hills Sandbox has a 6,000-square-foot welcome center with meeting space for 150 guests. Don’t forget to pop into the gift shop to get something nice to remember your excursion.
The idea was inspired by two such facilities in Minnesota and Las Vegas. There are only 6 total attractions like this in the U.S.
