Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, an overall crowd pleaser and Columbus staple, is known for its variety of flavors and quality of taste. Oh, and of course for their founder and cookbook author, Jeni Britton Bauer. Recently, Britton spoke with UPROXX about her favorite local fanfare, and some places everyone in the city should check out.
Tommy’s Pizza
Location: Upper Arlington, Ohio State Campus and Dublin
Known: OSU campus digs, winner of City Scene’s “Best of the ‘Bus 2017” Mom and Pop Pizzeria
Britton Bauer: “There is fancier pizza out there, but there’s none I’d rather eat than Tommy’s Pizza.”
Junior’s Tacos
Location: Trucking on 184 W 5th Ave
Known: Authentic Mexican cuisine
Britton Bauer: “It’s just a truck slinging cheap and ridiculously good tacos.”
Akai Hana
Location: 1173 Old Henderson Rd, Columbus, OH 43220
Known: Upscale sushi that basically everyone in the city raves about
Britton Bauer: “My family goes to Akai Hana almost every Sunday night for dinner.”
Challah Food Truck
Location: Seventh Son Brewery (Wednesday and Sunday), Pins Mechanical Co. ( Thursdays and Friday) and Woodlands Tavern (Monday through Friday).
Known: Keeps it Kosher, and then some. With both reinvented Jewish comfort food and non Kosher options as well.
Britton Bauer: “Their pastrami corned beef is off the charts. And you have to get a side of schmaltz fried potatoes if they’re on the menu.”
Natalie’s Coal Fired Pizza
Location: Worthington
Known: Great pizza, intimate musical performances
Britton Bauer: “Natalie’s Coal Fired Pizza in Worthington is a pizza and live music joint, and their brunch is out of this world.”
