As Ohio law currently stands, tampons are considered a “luxury” item, therefore they are taxable.
But a bill is back before Ohio lawmakers that would exempt sales tax on tampons since they are a necessary medical item for females.
WOSU reports that the bill’s sponsor, Democratic Rep. Brigid Kelly, says tampons and pads should be treated like other health care supplies that are already free of sales tax.
This bill has bipartisan support.
