Columbus Hearing to Ban Conversion Therapy
A practice that has been universally denounced by LGBTQ communities, Conversion Therapy, could be banned in Columbus.
Council President Zach Klein is heading up a measure that would stop health care professionals in Columbus from prescribing or using conversion therapy.
The public hearing was sponsored by the Rules & Reference Committee and was the first of its kind on the topic for Columbus. Cincinnati and Toledo have already passed similar measures. Columbus could vote within the next 30 days, according to officials.
The legislation would consider the prescription and use of conversion therapy a criminal/civil offense and punishable as a misdemeanor with fines and possible jail time.
Only licensed medical professionals would be held to the legislation, not other groups or religious organizations.
