OSU Olympic Gold Medalist Banned from Iran

In response to 45th President of the United States ban on seven countries from allowing their residents to enter the U.S. Iran has officially banned U.S. wrestlers from participating in the Freestyle World Cup in the western Iranian city of Kermanshah.

While inconsequential to most — it directly impacts OSU’s Olympic Gold Medalist, Kyle Snyder, and former Buckeye and four-time NCAA Champion Logan Stieber who were set to compete in the Freestyle World Cup Feb. 16th – 17th.

“”It’s one of my favorite events, and I was going to get some matches that would have really been productive in my development. It could have helped my future in how I want to compete, and I could have learned about myself. But it is what it is. There’s nothing I can really do about it. I’m not going to let it really affect me. I’m just going to go about the rest of my week and keep training. Now there will be a couple more Ohio State matches that I can make.” Snyder told the Dispatch this morning.

Snyder won Olympic gold last August in the Rio games and is will wrestle tonight for OSU when the No. 4 Buckeyes meet No. 2 Penn State at Value City Arena at 6 p.m.
