President Trump was due in Ohio today for his first presidential visit and to sign a bill Republicans believe would relieve the plight of the coal and mining industry.
His plans to visit were first reported by the Youngstown Vindicator, via his non-public calendar. The same paper then reported today that the visit was unexpectedly cancelled.
Trump has vowed to revitalize the coal industry which has struggled with the growth of lower-cost crude oil and natural gas, though his now-cancelled trip would have taken him far north from the bulk of Ohio’s prime easter coal country.
