Altercation in front yard leads to Columbus’ 53rd homicide

A man died from multiple gun shot wounds on the north side last night. It began as a confrontation between two young men on someone’s lawn.
The victim, Allen M. Palmer, 21, was found on the front yard of a home in the 1700 block of Sugarmaple Drive around 6:38 p.m. Palmer was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m.
Just a few minutes after the shooting, the police had their suspect. The police helicopter quickly tracked Devin Lee Douthitt, 23, and stopped his vehicle on Karl Rd. near Rte. 161.
Douthitt has been charged with murder.
This is the 53rd homicide so far in 2017.
