Kasich to skip fair appearance to oversee execution

John Kasich will skip out on the governor’s traditional appearance at the opening day of the Ohio State Fair on Wednesday to oversee the execution of a rapist/murderer in Southern Ohio.

Spokesman Jim Lynch assures that Kasich will swing by the fair the day after the execution.

It has been 3 1/2 years since Ohio has gone through with a lethal injection.

Ronald Phillips will be the first person to receive the death penalty since the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals put executions back on track in Ohio late last month. Phillips was found guilty of beating, raping, and murdering his girlfriend’s three-year-old daughter in 1993.

The last execution in Ohio was January 16, 2014. Complications lead the man being lethally injected to gasp, choke, and cough for about 20 minutes before dying. A new combination of midazolam, rocuronium bromide, and potassium chloride will now be put into practice.
