Columbus one of 20 cities most “affected” by Executive Order
45th President of the United States, Donald Trump’s recent executive orders have spurred widespread controversy and criticism. The order, which bans travel to the U.S. for 90 days from seven predominantly Muslim countries – Iran, Libya, Iraq, Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, and Syria — the executive order also bars refugee resettlement for 120 days.
According to a research and data by the Brookings Institute, Columbus is among 20 cities with that contains the most amount of residents from the seven banned countries.
Columbus’s total population (as of 2015) was 1.9million with a total residents from the banned countries hitting around 12,200. For every 1,000 people, there were 6 individuals from a banned country.
The most densely populated was Detriot, MI — for 1,000 residents, 15 are from banned countries. Detroit was followed by Modesto, CA: 14.9 — Los Angeles, CA: 12.2 — San Diego, CA: 12.1 and Rochester, MN: 11.4.
Columbus has more Somali immigrants and refugees than all other banned country populations combined.
Columbus was #12 on the list.
The Brookings Institute is a self-described non-partisan think tank — it was found in “A Measure of Media Bias” an article from The Quarterly Journal of Economics that the Brookings Institute scored a 53 out of 100 on a bi-partisan usage scale (100 being most liberal, 0 being most conservative)
