Another monument honoring the Confederacy bites the dust. This time, right here in Columbus.
A marker commemorating the birthplace of a Confederate general has been removed from its location in Worthington. Brigadier General Roswell Sabin Ripley was a major player for the Confederates during the Civil War and born right in north Columbus.
A Worthington spokesperson told ABC6 that the marker was removed to represent the community’s promotion of “tolerance, respect, and inclusion.”
Worthington has many other ties to the Civil War including underground railroad station, reports ABC6. The city and community will meet about how to commemorate these ties.
