Heads up, you might find your property taxes there

Heads up, Franklin County homeowners, your property taxes may look a bit different next year. Appraisal estimates released from county Auditor Clarence Mingo reveal folks in Franklin County could spend as much as 2 percent more on property taxes.

More research from Mingo’s office concludes that home values rose 14 percent in the last three years when property values were last updated.

Expect your individual appraisal estimates late next month.

In the last three years, the change in home values ranged from the highest in Grandview at 29.9 percent to the lowest in Dublin at 8.5 percent.

In Grandview, homeowners are looking at paying about $130 more in taxes for each $100,000 in home value. For others in most school districts, they’ll be looking at about $50 more for the same.

You do have options though. If you can’t wrap your head around your fat taxes on your property, challenge them during the annual board of review meeting in February and March 2018. It’s not a lost cause either according to Mingo. Sixty percent of people who challenged their last bill received some sort of change in value.
