Lead paint cases filed against dozens of Columbus landlords

Sixty cases are being filed against property owners in Columbus who haven’t removed dangerous lead paint from their properties. Fifty-one property owners have been told to evacuate their properties because of the lead hazard. Many of these properties housed children. The 60 cases are expected to be filed within 30 days with potential of more cases to follow.

There are nearly 500 more property owners on the state registry who have not yet complied.

Columbus has the most hazardous properties in Ohio when it comes to lead paint.

Houses built before 1978 have a high chance of containing lead paint. It is poisonous if ingested or inhaled. If a child becomes poisoned, it can lead to things as severe as lowered IQ, delayed growth, and hearing loss.
