Light on the breathing, Cbus issued air quality alert

Guys, the air is lava.

Not really but it’s not safe. The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) issued an air quality alert for most of central Ohio:

  • Delaware County
  • Fairfield County
  • Franklin County
  • Knox County
  • Madison County
  • Licking County

We’re likely to experience ground ozone pollution levels that frankly could be a whole hell of a lot lower. The MORPC thinks our Air Quality Index (below) level could be at 101 (orange section).

“In this range, the outdoor air is likely to be unhealthy for more people,” the AQI said about the level we’ll probably reel in tomorrow. “Children, people who are sensitive to ozone, and people with heart or lung disease should limit prolonged outdoor exertion during the afternoon or early evening when ozone levels are highest.”

We can’t be we’re saying this but the warm temps, calm wind, and sunshine are not working in our favor with this one. This just makes the pollutants stagnant.

Over at MORPC, they’re leaning forward with their elbows on their desk, massaging their temples. We gotta improve our air quality people!

They’re screaming at us to:

  • Carpool
  • Use public transportation
  • Ride a bike
  • Turn off our engines rather than idle
  • refuel at dusk rather than in the daytime heat
  • avoid mowing our lawns on air quality alert days because longer grass is good for the air
