Ohio withholds books about computers from prisoners

Among texts that are sexually explicit, violent, and teach escape mechanisms, books about computer coding are banned from Ohio prisons.

WOSU reports that MuckRock, a journalism organization, did an investigation and found that literature pertaining to codes and ciphers are filtered out of prison libraries in the Buckeye State.

Books go through a screening process before they are put on prison shelves but the ODRC gave no details about how the process actually works. It is plausible that prisoners could use coding to establish contraband computers for things like credit card fraud and the creation of security clearance passes, reports WOSU.
