Overdose Deaths on the Rise in Franklin County

For the first nine months of 2016, overdose deaths totaled almost 250, with 80% of those being opiate related, according to the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.

The results so far are leading the county to have more overdose deaths than the previous year 2015, where 321 people died, according to NBC4i.

Most overdose deaths reported for 2016 were caucasian males and 56 of those deaths were caused by the use of fentanyl.

Additionally, the Coroner’s office reported that most overdose deaths occurred in South Columbus, Hilltop, West Columbus/Franklin Township, or Southeast Columbus.
