What AEP “smart” meters mean for you

AEP is planning a statewide overhaul of their traditional meters over the next four years. The new electricity gauges will be more advanced, reports The Dispatch per American Electric Power. Here is what you can expect from your “smart” meter installation and service:

  • 10 day notice before scheduled installation
  • 2 minute installation
  • Brief power outage during the meter swap (“File” and “Save as” your documents people!)
  • New meter allows for two-way communication between you and your friendly electrical people
    • to identify power outages
    • to eliminate inconvenience of meter checker coming to your property
    • to simplify billing process

Delaware will be introduced to the new system first and on deck this year is:

    • Bexley Mid 2018
    • Columbus Northeast Early 2018
    • Columbus Northwest Early 2018
    • Columbus Southeast Mid 2018
    • Columbus Southwest Late 2018
    • Dublin Late 2017
    • Grandview Late 2018
    • Hilliard Early 2018
    • New Albany Late 2017
    • Whitehall Mid 2018
    • Worthington Late 2017
