The Red Cross Needs Your Blood

The American Red Cross is in desperate need of eligible blood and platelet donors in helping resupply their shelves after severe winter weather caused a cancellation of nearly 300 blood drives across 27 states.

The organization said more than 10,500 blood and platelet donations have been left uncollected since Dec. 1.

A regular donor, Jim Taylor who’s son, Aaron, was born with a rare liver condition, and received 115 transfusions in the short two months of his life, said he knows how it feels to have a loved one waiting for a transfusion.

“When the Red Cross says there is a shortage, they are not exaggerating,” said Taylor in a press release. “I now know from experience that what they are saying is somewhere there is a father waiting on the donation that will save his son’s life. When the Red Cross asks for help, what that means is a new dad is praying for a miracle.”

Through Feb. 28, donors in the central Ohio area can enter to win $2,000 in Kroger gift cards through the upcoming blood donation opportunities are scheduled throughout Franklin County.
