ECOT stuck in case that could “kill” the school

The Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow (ECOT) finds itself in a bit of a pickle; the state ruled that the students at the school weren’t meeting minimum attendance requirements and that ECOT got failing grades on its last state report card. Therefore, the state believes the school should repay $60 million to taxpayers.
ECOT leaders argue that repaying that lump of money would kill the school and that attendance and graduation rates were fine last year, at 16,000 and 2,000 respectively. In the court case, ECOT asked the judge to block the demand that the money be returned. The State Board of Education’s court has until today to reach a verdict.
