C-bus getting free, Uber-like transportation

On May 1, Columbus will be getting yet another free option for transportation; Hopper Carts. These van/small bus things are 100% electric and 100% free to use. You’d request a ride on the app, just as you would for an Uber. Also like Uber, drivers have to pass a background test and vehicle inspection before they can be verified to operate a Hopper Cart.

You can take these shuttles anywhere between Nationwide Blvd and Fifth Ave. The program will begin as a pilot and if all goes well, Hopper Carts will become a permanent fixture.

“Encouraging people to consider transit options such as Hopper Carts will be vital to limiting congestion in dense urban areas,” said Kelly Scocco, Deputy Director of the Department of Public Service. “The more we encourage visitors and others to use more cost-effective, long-term options such as the Hopper Carts, COTA, the Cbus, taxis, car sharing, biking and walking in trying to get in and around dense urban areas, the more we can limit congestion-related issues.”
