#Drink614: 99 + 1 bottles, pints, and cans of Cbus beer

By Steve Croyle

Craft beer has become a staple in Columbus culture with loads of microbreweries popping up all over Ginther’s green earth with original, frothy, alcoholic beverages flowing from every tap.

Nine years ago, it would’ve been difficult to name even 20 local brews but now, we can easily breezily name 100. Here are a few standouts that define the 614..

1) Blood Thirst Wheat
Barley’s
Barley’s tweaked this home-brew contest winner into a powerhouse that chases all other beers in this category off the tap lines.

2) Glory
Land-Grant
Another hoppy wheat that retains a bit of haze, packing a nice bright hop bite in a tailgate-worthy beer. Columbus ‘Til We Die!

3)Mogabi
Elevator
The first hoppy wheat offered by a Columbus brewer, and regarded by most as one of Elevator’s best beers.

4) Weekend at Bernice’s
Lineage
Lineage opts for the Berliner Weisse as a mouth puckering option. This has a margarita twist.

5) Fisticuffs
Sideswipe
Sideswipe’s combative naming conventions belie just how easily their beers go down. This IPA is no exception.

6) IBU UBME
Commonhouse
Commhouse decided not to be left out of the mix in brewing a big IPA.

7) Wuffles
Seventh Son
Seventh Son’s light, golden ale is perfect for their patio on a hot summer day.

8) Clear Sky
Wolf’s Ridge
Wolf’s Ridge took a big risk on a cream ale and turned it into a franchise.

9) Columbus IPA
CBC
Columbus Brewing company mothballed their Pale Ale but the IPA quickly became the flagship after Eric Bean took the helm. Another historical local beer.

10) Hilltop Heritage Lager
Four String
Four String decided to go old school and make a classic American lager. Crushable.
