Ohio and Columbus killing the tourism game
Ohio is always the place where the weird relatives are from in movies or the random state that Hawthorne Heights decided to scream about. Living here, it’s hard to think about it being a destination for people. But contrary to what you may believe, the tourism industry in Ohio has been on the rise for seven straight years. Five million more people visited Ohio last year than the year before and with them, an extra $1 billion. That’s billion with a big ol’ “B.” Check out more about Ohio’s tourism here.
Columbus’ tourism industry is also banging. The culmination of our sports teams, thriving businesses, wide range of conventions and other events have increased our hotel occupancy by 3.3 percent from this time last year.
“We hosted twice as many citywide events in the first quarter compared to the same time frame last year, which played a big role in boosting hotel production and bed tax revenue,” said Brian Ross, Experience Columbus president and CEO. “To keep Columbus competitive and top of mind, our team is focused on hosting more meeting planners, group tour operators and media to show off our destination and increase awareness of all there is to see and do in the city.”
Ohio. Find It Here. is an ad campaign the state launch to bolster tourism. We’re not sure if the campaign was any help at all but regardless, people are flocking to the Buckeye State.
