OSU to join Iowa in heartfelt tradition this Saturday

Once the clock starts around 3:30pm on Saturday, Ohio State and Iowa will be in battle. But after the first quarter, the battle will cease and the only thing that will matter is this children up in the “Press box.”

Iowa has started a tradition after the first quarter of play where everyone in the 70,000-capacity stadium turns to the east and gives a big wave to the patients in the nearby University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital that overlooks the football field.

The Dispatch reports that it started with a simple suggestion on an Iowa football fan Facebook page and has been in place since 2012. It’s priceless but means the world to those children up on the 12th floor—the “Press box.”

Coach Urban Meyer says the team will participate in the ritual this Saturday.

After everyone takes a moment to send their thoughts and waves to the kiddos, it’ll be back to business.

O-H, for the kids!
