Today is strange. It’s warm — uncomfortably so. The weather has been wrecking my sinus, and my body is having a revolt against itself as it tries to come to terms with the unseasonable temperatures.
Despite everyone being like, “Ooh, what’s going on?!” This actually has a name — the “January Thaw” according to The Weather Channel. The January Thaw is a bit of a white whale for meteorologists, who’s entire career is predicting the future, making the “singularity” of a January Thaw a bit of a headache.
A cited paper on the topic calls the entire thing a “statistical phantom” and is a pretty interesting read (if you like reading about math and the weather.)
So enjoy the wet and warm weather of this odd January (but not too odd, because it has a name.)
