Franklinton’s Urban Scrawl returns for live art, local love

One of Franklinton’s shiniest gems has announced details for their annual creative bash.

Presented by the Franklinton Arts District, Urban Scrawl will return to Franklinton on Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26 for the 12th year of live local painting, singing, dancing, eating, and boozing.

This two-day fest hosts local artists who transform huge wooden planks right before spectators’ eyes.

Hit up Urban Scrawl at noon on Saturday and you’ll see plain slates covered in lead lines. Return at 6pm on Sunday to find beautiful pieces of art that you’ll swear took the talented folks proudly standing beside them months to complete.

Many of these projects will be available to purchase at the Art for Franklinton fundraiser auction. The murals that don’t go up for sale are weather sealed and triumphantly displayed around the neighborhood.

Proceeds from Urban Scrawl benefit the George Bellows Grant Program which provides arts funding in the Franklinton community.

For those of you who aren’t so artistically inclined, there will be activities there that we all excel at: Eating and drinking.

Local breweries and food trucks will be circling the live artists both days of the fest.

There will be plenty of parking around the site at 400 W. Rich St. and don’t worry about admission because admission is free!

Urban Scrawl will happen Saturday, August 25 from noon to 10pm and then on Sunday, August 26 from noon to 6pm.
