“Once in a blue moon” happening this Wednesday

The saying, “Once in a blue moon” will be extremely relevant this week as we will experience a lunar spectacular which coined that very saying.
The total eclipse of a blue moon, which will be over 150 years in the making, is a three-fold phenomenon:
- It is a full moon and the second of the month
- It is a supermoon which means it’s the closest to the earth
- The sun, moon, and earth will be aligned so the Earth will block the sunlight which is usually reflected off the moon, leaving us with a red/orange “blood moon”
However, there will be challenges with viewing. NBC4i reports the sky will be overcast which may obscure the view of the moon. The slim window of opportunity for Central Ohioans to see the supermoon is 7:41 am on that Wednesday. If your schedule on Wednesday won’t allow for some sky gawking, there’s always December 31st, 2028 when the next blue moon total lunar eclipse will occur.
