Beautiful, boujee, Belgian waffle restaurant coming to Short North

When you think of waffles, you probably image a grated, fluffy, round carb with butter, syrup, and maybe chicken if you’re imaginative.

But at Belgian Iron, coming to the Short North in January 2019, they’re shattered waffle boarders and serving up artisan breakfast options like you’ve never seen.

The new restaurant at 19 West Russell Street practices the Liege-style of Belgian waffle cooking which means the waffles literally don’t have defined borders like traditional Belgian waffles have.

Belgian Iron’s dough is also different than the soupy batter you grew up with.

“The wafel itself has real Belgian pearl sugar carefully folded into the dough by hand [flour, butter, sugar, yeast, eggs, vanilla, Belgian pearl sugar and salt],” reads the website. “When that cooks between two Belgian-imported cast irons, the result is fantastic – a soft, flaky wafel on the inside and a little extra sweet crunch of caramelized sugar on the outside.”

Also, a note on the spelling:

But, the uniqueness doesn’t stop there.

Belgian Iron’s menu offerings include Lemon Crème + Berries, Carrot Cake, and Salted Chocolate Carmel waffle bites on the sweet side and Bacon, Basil + Brie, Belgian Mushroom, and Bourbon BBQ Pork Duo on the savory.
