Columbus is a trashy city—literally—and the residents and city alike are working on changing that. Volunteer groups including Keep Columbus Beautiful say litter is being produced faster than a they can clean it up.

10TV spoke with a couple community advocates who say the city hasn’t done enough to promote cleanliness in years past.

Now, they’re stepping up.

Columbus plans to incorporate more messages in city schools to to instill good habits early. They also plan to train neighborhood groups how to strategically deal with trash using litter indexes and orchestrate small, monthly cleanups.

According to Keep Ohio Beautiful, littering in Ohio carries punishments of fines of up to $500 and 60 days in jail.
