Automation kicking 50+ John Glenn airport employees out of jobs

Automation will kick more than 50 John Glenn Columbus International Airport parking lot cashiers out of their jobs this fall.

The Dispatch reports 24 full-time and 31 part-time workers will be laid off on November 15.

All of the airport parking lots will still have human supervisors, they just won’t be cashiers.

Laid-off workers will have a chance to apply for a supervisor position but must complete the hiring process like any other applicant.

In other airport news, it looks like a second hotel will be going up near John Glenn Columbus International Airport and several dozen people are being laid off.

The 122-room Fairfield Inn & Suits, Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn will likely be joined by a 122-room Residence Inn by summer 2020.

The address will be 4294 International Gateway, reports The Dispatch.

John Glenn Columbus International Airport also expects to install eight electric vehicle charging stations before the end of the year, with half available for public use.

AEP Ohio will likely chip in $50,000 to help cover the $90,000 cost.
