OSU freaked out by 70 degree temps, doing something about it
Seventy degree weather in February; great, but weird, right? Researchers at Ohio State think so too and are doing something to change it.
The Ohio State University’s Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center and the city of Columbus teamed up to create a task force to address the following climate issues:
- increasing temperatures
- increasing variability in precipitation
- potential impacts on vulnerable populations
The task force hopes improvements to the following areas will help curb the three aforementioned climate issues:
- Extreme heat
- Air quality and energy
- Flooding
- Water quality
- Water use
- Ecosystems
- Emergency preparedness
- Vulnerable populations
A final document will be prepared by the task force and presented to Mayor Andrew Ginther later in May. These efforts throw Ohio State into a ring of only 13 other North American universities dedicating research resources to reducing emissions in their communities.
