Reagan Tokes’ family loses wrongful death suit

The family of Reagan Tokes, the Ohio State University student who was kidnapped, raped and fatally shot in February of 2017 by Brian Golsby, a convicted sex offender, did not win their wrongful death lawsuit.

Golsby was released from prison just three months before Tokes’ death and was under the supervision and ankle monitor surveillance of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction’s Adult Parole Authority.

In those three months, Golsby was slapped with sanctions for going missing from his assigned housing center and failing to charge his ankle monitor, reports 10TV. He also committed a string of robberies up to the day of Tokes’ kidnapping, rape, and murder.

The Tokes family sued the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in May for negligence.

However, a judge with the Ohio Court of Claims tossed out the suit saying, “The court does not find the Estate has pleaded any facts that establish the first requirement of any negligence action.”

Tokes was just three months shy of graduating from The Ohio State University when she was abducted from the Short North area, forced to retrieve money from a Chase ATM in German Village and then raped before being fatally shot in the head in the Scioto Grove Metro Park.

Golsby was convicted earlier this year and is currently serving a life sentence.
