Top paying state jobs, Kasich’s rank may surprise you
How much do you think Governor John Kasich makes a year?
Go on, take a guess.
We bet your guess is too high.
While he may have the highest job title in state government, Kasich’s $148,853 salary comes in near the middle of the pack according to an Ohio state employee salary database.
10TV reports he ranks as the 196th highest paid.
The highest earner was Psychiatrist Zinovi Goubar who works with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
Goubar’s salary of $590,000 in 2017 is owed in part to the need to keep psychiatrists on the clock to maintain six psychiatric hospitals in the state during a time when Ohio is lacking professionals in the field.
The second highest earner, Nurse Joshua Ndematebem with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, also largely benefited from overtime. He ended the year with $114,772 worth of overtime, totaling a gross income of $222,988.69.
Ohio’s total payroll increased from 2016, as did overtime payout.
An average state employee earned $54,161 last year compared to $52,724 in 2016.
