You can soon do electric slide ride on COTA (boogie woogie, woogie)
It’s electric! (Boogie woogie, woogie).
COTA is vetting for 10 Proterra electric buses by the end of 2019 as it continues to phase out diesel.
These silent, 40-foot rechargeable vehicles cost nearly double what diesel-powered buses cost but according to a presentation by COTA per Columbus Business First, they pay for themselves with lower energy and maintenance costs.
They carry price tags of $739,000 to $958,000 each.

COTA was given the green light to seek funding.
In addition to the 10 buses, COTA will also be adding $2 million in electric vehicle charging stations to be completed by next summer.
No word on if the electric buses will affect riding fares.
Since 2012, COTA has been pursuing cleaner alternatives to diesel by purchasing only gas-electric hybrid buses.
Do you think purchasing electric buses is a good move for COTA and Columbus?
