By this summer (which seems like it will never arrive), every Columbus Police officer will be adorn in a body camera.

Mayor Ginther made it his mission to get all 2,000+ cops body cams during his 2015 campaign. Three years may seem like a long time to secure some small cameras but the city is actually six months ahead of schedule.

More than 850 cops are already sporting the cameras and 1,300 should be outfitted with them by June.

“From the earliest days of his administration, Mayor Ginther has made the implementation of body-worn cameras a top priority because they are an important tool to enhance public safety,” said Robin Davis, Ginther’s spokeswoman, per The Dispatch.
