Urban Meyer will step down as head coach at Ohio State following the Buckeyes appearance at the Rose Bowl against Washington on January 1.

Ryan Day will be moving to the top of the football masthead.

It is the likely assumption that the Urban Meyer era is coming to an end due to health reasons, but all will be revealed at the press conference this afternoon.

Back in 1998, Meyer was diagnosed with an arachnoidal cyst inside his skull which, caused him severe headaches.

Day, who is in his second year as the offensive coordinator, got a taste of the head coach life at the beginning of the season during Meyer’s suspension for mishandling domestic abuse allegations made against his former receivers coach Zach Smith.

The Buckeyes went 3-0 under Day’s leadership.
