Cameron Mitchell donates big to CSCC so local culinary scene won’t be 86’ed

Cameron Mitchell Restaurants is making a big investment in the future of Central Ohio’s culinary scene. The restaurant group will donate $2.5 million to Columbus State Community College’s new Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts building.

Mitchell Hall, a namesake derived from the lead gift, will be located at 250 Cleveland Ave. in the Discovery District. The project is also made possible by contributions from the state as well as the Columbus Foundation and Osteopathic Heritage Foundation.

The 80,000-square-foot facility will give CSCC the ability to double enrollment in their Hospitality and Culinary Arts program as well as offer guests a 100-seat restaurant and bar, retail cafe and bakery, and a 400-seat conference center and banquet hall with catering, reports Columbus Business First. But let’s not forget about the 100-seat theater, farm-to-table production garden, and outdoor patios and balconies for your dining pleasures.

That all sounds wonderful but before any of it can happen, CSCC must round up $10 million more in private and philanthropic funding. Will you loosen up the strings on your pocketbook for the sake of culinary and hospitality education?

“Making this a signature building is important to the college, but it’s also important to the city,” said Columbus State President David Harrison. “We all believe that this can be catalytic with regard to future work on Cleveland Avenue.”
