If you’re a betting person, you wont like odds of Cbus getting Amazon HQ2

Columbus landed itself in the top 20 potential locations for Amazon’s highly coveted second headquarters project but according to some online betting sites, we’re coming in at the bottom of the barrel.

Columbus Dispatch reports both Sports Betting Dime and Bovada ranked Columbus in the bottom half for odds of being chosen. The former pegged the odds of Columbus being chosen at 26 to 1 in 15th place and the latter placed us in dead last. Another betting site called Paddy Power also didn’t like the chances of us being chosen with 20 to 1 chance, AKA last place.

Housing website Zillow did a survey which placed Columbus in 15th.

Atlanta floated near or at the top of most of the rankings.

Many economist and development officials side with the oddsmakers, saying Columbus isn’t a top choice.

However, The Dispatch reports these predictions from oddsmakers and economists may not mean much because Amazon hasn’t come out and explicitly stated what they are looking for in a location for HQ2.

If incentives are Amazon’s priority, Columbus might still fall short to places like Maryland and Newark, New Jersey whose incentives range from $5 billion to $7 billion, respectively.

But, say Amazon is looking to harvest talent from the region of HQ2, Columbus would look pretty damn good with Ohio State and many other universities within close proximity.
