‘Burb Breakdown: 5 things to do in Gahanna this Fall

Covering many vibrant communities across central Ohio, the 614 is so much more than just Columbus. Welcome to the ‘Burb Breakdown, an ongoing series highlighting the unique character of neighborhoods from across this sprawling metro area we call home. This time, we take a look at everything happening in Gahanna this Fall.

Located just a few miles from downtown Columbus and five minutes from John Glenn International Airport, Gahanna offers an oasis of autumn color and adventure just off the I-270 outerbelt. Here are five insider tips to help you make the most of Gahanna this autumn season!

1.Blaze the Herbal Cocktail Trail
Born from Gahanna’s official status as the “Herb Capital of Ohio,” visit Gahanna has tapped the city’s herbal roots, enlisting seven of the city’s most popular signature eateries, distilleries, and bars to create inventive seasonal cocktails. For fall, all seven partners have crafted unique herb-infused libations that embrace our favorite autumn flavors.

Grab a passport at Visit Gahanna (167 Mill St.) or any of the seven partner establishments. Purchase a featured cocktail at any of the participating establishments and receive a passport stamp. Once you have all the stamps, bring your passport to the Visit Gahanna offices (Monday–Friday  8:30am- 6pm) and redeem your passport for an Herbal Cocktail Trailblazer T-shirt!

2. Fall Hikes, Bikes & Rides
With 750 acres of parkland—and walking/bike trails that wind through them—Gahanna offers a picturesque paradise of fall color to explore. Grab your bike or your walking shoes and get active! From the breathtaking Gahanna Woods Nature Preserve (featuring vernal pools, boardwalks, and some of the most unique flora in Ohio) to Creekside Park’s waterfalls and wandering paths along the stream, Gahanna provides a nature lover’s haven. If you prefer a scenic drive, take a detour off of Morse Road and meander down Cherry Bottom Road under the canopy of autumn leaves wearing their most vibrant fall colors.

3. Dining ‘Round the Fire.
Fend off the fall chill by enjoying great food, drink, and company around an outdoor patio fire at Barrel & Boar Gahanna, The Barn at Rocky Fork Creek or Rusty Bucket Gahanna. Prefer to stay warm and cozy inside? 101 Beer Kitchen Gahanna offers an indoor gas fireplace in the bar area—best enjoyed during Happy Hour or while dining on one of the chef-driven specialties from 101BK’s fall menu.

4. Ohio Herb Center
The Ohio Herb Center, one of Gahanna’s hidden gems, offers weekly hands-on workshops touting the benefits of herbs…from health and wellness practices, to culinary inspiration, and DIY beauty products (sans chemicals). Peruse the list of Fall classes and you’ll discover Herbs for Dreaming, Sacred Smoke: Incense, Herbal Potions for a Spooky Season, Ghosts of Gahanna Tours and more.

5. Hump Day Happy Hours & Fabulous Fridays
If you haven’t yet visited Wyandotte Winery in Gahanna, you should. Central Ohio’s oldest winery is tucked into a wooded neighborhood setting, and features an expansive list of tasty wines, great food (don’t pass on the Wine Cake Trio), guided tours and great events. We love the Hump Day Happy Hours on Wednesday and Fabulous Friday celebrations (complete with live music and food trucks), but it’s the friendly and attentive staff that make this destination so special.
