Blooms and Butterflies flutters into 25th year at Franklin Park Conservatory

To paraphrase the 2001 smash hit “Butterfly” by rap-rock group Crazy Town, come, come m’ladies (and gents) to Franklin Park Conservatory as Blooms and Butterflies celebrates 25 years!

This year’s edition of the conservatory’s popular event kicks off Saturday, March 9. Also opening that day is an art exhibition by Open Door Art Studio & Gallery, titled “Vista: A Voyager’s Vantage Point,” as well as the annual Bonsai exhibition.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Blooms & Butterflies, the conservatory is adding even more of the fan-favorite blue morpho butterflies to the exhibit, along with other exotic species like the Julia longwing, banded purple wing, paper kite, and malachite. More than 27,000 butterflies will be released into the conservatory’s Pacific Island Water Garden throughout the course of the exhibition.

Included with daily admission are educational opportunities that allow visitors to get a closer look at the various species in Blooms & Butterflies. Each day at 1pm and 3pm, a butterfly specialist will release a selection of newly emerged butterflies into the space. On Saturdays and Sundays from 10am–12pm, interactive activities are available for butterfly enthusiasts of all ages to interact with cocoons, chrysalises, and moths with the guidance of a butterfly specialist.

This event is a great opportunity to get up close and personal with some of nature’s most beautiful creatures in the serene setting of the conservatory.
