No silver lining for this man’s USPS horror story

One columbus man has lost more than $1,000 worth of silver and his shot at a vacation after the United States Postal Service failed him.

Gil Brano was offered $1,472 for his bar of silver at American Precious Metals Exchange based in Oklahoma City. The company advised he mail the bar from a post office. And so, after purchasing insurance, he sent the package on its way with the USPS.

But, the silver never arrived.

NBC4i reports Brano expected to be refunded for the cost of the silver because he purchased insurance. However, USPS told him the maximum indemnity for negotiable items, like currency, is $15.

While he did get his $15 check, Brano is completely unsatisfied with his experience with the federal government service.

Better Call Jackson reached out to USPS for answers.

“The postal service recommends, customers mail cash, check or other negotiable items using Registered Mail. Other items can be shipped using insured mail for a value up to $5,000,” Susan W. Wright with the USPS said via email.  

Brano knows this situation is not unique to him, but that doesn’t make him any less angry and bewildered.

 He told NBC4i he hopes his story will prevent things like this from happening to someone else.
