Many of us throughout Ohio were awakened to the haunting sound of tornado sirens late last night as a major storm tore through the western half of the state.

While high winds and golf ball-sized hail have been reported around central Ohio, most of us were fortunate enough to simply shrug off the sirens and go back to bed. Sadly, many our neighbors to the west in the Dayton area were not so fortunate.

The Cincinnati/ Dayton chapter of the Red Cross have opened a shelters for those who may have lost their homes in the devastating storm, which included the touchdown of a long-trail tornado. Donations may be made directly to the Red Cross to assist in aid efforts in the area.

As with any breaking news story, the events surrounding the devastation unfolded in real time via social media. The tweets collected below give some idea of the situation.

Again, if you are at all able, please consider volunteering your time or making a donation to the Red Cross in our Ohio neighbors’ time of need.
